Location: GRAND RAPIDS

Salary: $15.13 per hour

Job Type: Full Time, Temporary, Contract

  • There is an immediate need for three (3) Fire Hydrant Workers. The Fire Hydrant Worker will operate, maintain and pump down fire hydrants for fall/winter preparation. There are approximately eight thousand (8,000) hydrants throughout the City that must be taken care of before they freeze by this department. Hours for this position are 7:30-4pm with a 30-minute unpaid lunch. The work week is Monday through Friday. This position will last until approximately Thanksgiving (when all hydrants should be emptied). Each hydrant worker will be provided their own pickup truck, tools, PPE and rain gear needed to perform their work. Boots are not provided but suggested that waterproof/warm boots be worn. Training will be provided also.
  • This position works in all types of weather as it must have the hydrants emptied before they freeze but should be complete approximately Thanksgiving. It may be cold, rainy, or any other type of weather but these workers will continue to get the job completed. Because this job is time sensitive to keep the hydrants from freezing, being at this position every day is essential. The candidates (and successful employees) must have excellent attendance.
  • The City is proactive with its concern in checking all employees with regards to COVID-19. All employees must enter the building through the main entrance and submit a temperature reading and be masked up while in the building. This is for the safety of employees and their co-workers.
